15 July 2025: I’m unsure how much I like Dandadan
Relax, she’s fine.
I wanna say I was technically eager to see Dandadan (alternatively Dan Da Dan) continue after its split-cours break, and not only because it left off its Autumn 2024 run with a cliffhanger. Its first two episodes after this hiatus haven’t faltered either, so why am I only sort of okay with its return? It’s probably a combination of a lot of things, I expect, but I’m also not exactly in a position to turn this post into a listicle right this second.

Probably most significantly, it’s basically still shounen jive, despite not exclusively being about teenage boys. Really, I hope the claims I’ve seen about Momo’s character solidifying her role as the primary protagonist and continuing to overshadow “Okarun” in prominence turn out to be true and not just wishful thinking expressed by the sources of this information. (Read: Likely Internet canards.)

What I don’t know is what I want Dandadan to actually be. Weekly crazy shit about aliens, ghosts, and gyaru fashion, I guess. Considering that this is what it’s been delivering thus far, I have to assume any waning enthusiasm that might occur will be attributable more to the series simply not being my sort of thing exactly and not indicative of any faults in the anime, despite more specific misgivings others may express.
