The shooting at Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, Shetty Tower, during the early morning hours of Sunday (February 1, 2026) has left the entire film community reeling.
A recent development regarding the incident is even more alarming, as the gangster Lawrence Bishnoi gang has taken responsibility for the shooting that occurred outside the Golmaal director’s home in Mumbai. For those unaware, two assailants on motorcycles discharged several rounds at the Shetty Tower before making their escape. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the attack. The Bishnoi gang has issued a warning to the filmmaker and the industry, advising them not to meddle in their affairs.
Following a preliminary investigation into the firing at the filmmaker’s Juhu residence, Pune Police confirmed that the detained individuals are allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
According to police, the assailants opened fire at the first floor of the nine-storey building in Mumbai’s Juhu area at around 12.45 am. At least five rounds were fired, with one bullet striking the glass facade of a gym located within the building.
Audio Clip Contains Serious Warnings To Film Industry
The gang claimed responsibility through a social media post. Subsequently, an alleged gangster identifying himself as Arju Bishnoi released an audio message purportedly taking responsibility for the attack.
In the audio clip, the speaker, claiming to be Arju Bishnoi and referring to associates Shubham Lonkar and Hari Boxer, said they were behind the firing at Shetty’s residence. The message alleged that repeated warnings had been issued to the filmmaker “not to interfere in our work” and described the incident as merely a “short trailer”.
The audio also contained threats directed at members of the film industry, warning of more serious consequences for those who ignored the message. It further claimed that those supporting their “enemies” would be “crushed”.
Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the audio clip and probing the alleged involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Security around Shetty’s residence has been tightened as a precautionary measure.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, an organised criminal syndicate led by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been involved in extortion rackets, contract killings and arms smuggling. The gang has been linked to several high-profile crimes in recent years, including the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique and the firing incident outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s residence.
The suspects were detained during a coordinated operation based on specific intelligence inputs regarding their movements and background, officials said. During interrogation, preliminary findings pointed to their alleged links with criminal networks based in Mumbai, senior officers added.
The five accused — Aman Anand Marote, Aditya Dnyaneshwar Singing, Siddharth Deepak Yenpure, Samarth Shivsharan Pomaji, and another individual whose identity has not yet been disclosed — have been handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch for further investigation.
Police are examining CCTV footage from around the building to identify the assailants and establish the sequence of events. A forensic science team visited the spot to collect evidence, while heavy security has been deployed outside the building.
Rohit Shetty is best known for the Golmaal and Singham franchises, starring Ajay Devgn, as well as the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chennai Express.
