‘Long May You Run

On Saturday night, Hart & Rust played the Neil Young Experience at the Spire Center in Plymouth.

Though their concert was not intended to inspire the Patriots’ Super Bowl game versus Seattle next week, the lyrics of one of their most famous songs can easily be an inspiration and a message of gratitude as the Patriots leave for the West Coast.

“Long May You Run.”

Whether encouragement to Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson or Drake Maye on his scrambles, the lyrics and the message apply to the entire team and its accomplishments for 2026, the Super Bowl and beyond.

ICE at Olympics

The world’s best Olympians are soon heading off to Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, for the snow, ice and also ICE. Sadly since the 1972 Munich massacre, security is needed but does that justify ICE’s presence? How does that support the motto “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together”?

Custom enforcement usually happens at the border of your country or an airport not on a snow-bound mountain top, so why ICE?

Sanctuary

Massachusetts is a sanctuary state regardless of how many times Governor Maura Healey says it is not. Billions of taxpayer dollars were spent to support illegal immigrants who flooded Massachusetts. The Boston Police Department ignored every ICE detainer sent by federal authorities last year.  Fifty-seven illegal immigrants were released by the BPD before ICE could cart them away.  A sanctuary state builds a reputation that allows this to happen.

Illegal immigrants

The Democratic Party has a policy on illegal migrants which contradicts what Republicans believe and which is contradictory to our laws. In essence, Democrats believe that borders are for maps only. Anyone should be able to enter America illegally and become a permanent resident with the full benefit of our laws and welfare system if they are not held responsible for any other infraction. This policy is inimical to what conservatives believe and what our immigration laws now hold. Yes, we need reform pronto.

Global warming

Recent weather extremes in the South and East are examples of what global warming can cause — a warmer arctic that disrupts the polar vortex and pushes cold weather and snow farther south. It also changes moisture flows around the Earth, causing more rain, flooding, and stronger storms in some areas and more heatwaves, droughts, and wildfires in other regions.

Our use of coal, oil, and natural gas, which causes global warming, must be reduced quickly. One approach is to reform outdated and cumbersome permitting processes so clean energy projects, such as for solar and wind power — along with more transmission lines — can be added to our grid more quickly.

Also, permitting reform can put battery storage systems online sooner to hold excess electricity from solar and wind power plants during peak generation periods and release it when needed.
