Covini C6W Six-Wheeled Supercar with a Double Front Axle

Have you ever heard of a supercar with six wheels, with the front axle having four wheels and the rear axle having two? That was the dream that the Italian Ferruccio Covini brought alive.

So rarely, unlike in most cases, you can find the six-wheeled vehicles on SUVs. An example is the Chinese XPeng AeroHT, which has a rear-mounted four-wheel. This one they took further steps ahead and mounted the extra wheels behind the front, and it is a supercar known as the Covini C6W.

Behind its imaginable power on a six-wheeled car

The Covini C6W is equipped with a 4.2-liter Audi-sourced V8 engine capable of producing 430 to 440 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. It featured a 6-speed manual transmission, and for the 0 to 60 mph time, it ran under 3.9 seconds, and the top speed exceeded 189 mph.

Interior consisting of basic amenities

The interior was pretty classical, especially for the prototype model featuring an analog gauge cluster, and there are some buttons that protrude from the center of the dashboard. The gear shifter is only seen at the console; there are no cup holders or storage bins, and there is no infotainment system or any other enhanced features.

History Behind the Covini C6W

1976 stood as the birth year of the project, but it was abandoned and in the 1980s was left dormant due to lack of capital. The project was revived in 2003, and by 2004 the prototype was ready, paving the way for a limited production of 6 to 8 units per year. By 2016 the project was stopped, but it has recently returned to production only on demand.

Its weight is only 1,150 kg thanks to its body being made from a combination of carbon fiber and fiberglass, and it also features a tubular chassis and a removable roof like a Koenigsegg. It was inspired by the Tyrrell P34 F1 car thatโ€™s from the 70s.

The 2005 production model

In 2005, a revised version of the C6W 6-wheel car debuted, featuring a new roof structure, a refreshed interior, and new wheels (15 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear). The power remained unchanged, consisting of a mid-mounted Audi-sourced V8 engine.

It wasnโ€™t the only model with the front-mounted axle, as there are other models too, for example, the Tyrrell P34, Ford Seattle-ite XXI, and Panther 6. With the introduction of โ€œon demandโ€ production in 2022, you can be able to get the C6W at a price of $685,763 (580,000 euros).
