Shahid Kapoor is set to return to the big screen with O Romeo, and the film has now cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) process. The key takeaway from the certification is that O Romeo has been granted an adults only rating, making it Shahid Kapoor’s second A certified film after Kabir Singh (2019). With the expected theatrical release date locked for February 13, the CBFC outcome also clarifies what changes were required before the final cut could be approved.
While adult certifications are relatively rare for mainstream Hindi releases, Kapoor has previously been part of a high profile A rated title with Kabir Singh. The CBFC decision on O Romeo places it in a similar category and highlights that the film’s content required specific modifications even after receiving the A certificate.
O Romeo Becomes Shahid Kapoor’s Second A Certified Film After Kabir Singh
The CBFC has awarded O Romeo an ‘A’ certificate. This makes it Shahid Kapoor’s second film to receive an adults only certification after Kabir Singh. An A certificate typically indicates material intended strictly for adult audiences, often due to strong language, violence, or other mature themes.
With certification complete ahead of release, the final theatrical version of O Romeo will include the CBFC mandated changes implemented by the makers.
CBFC Changes “Item” To “Kumari” And Orders Dialogue Edits
Among the key dialogue modifications, the CBFC instructed the replacement of the word “item” with “kumari.” The certification documentation also lists additional dialogue related adjustments, including multiple substitutions, one instance of muting, and the removal of one word.
These edits are part of the board’s standard compliance process, even within an adults only rating bracket.
Woman Slapping Visual Reduced By 20 Percent
The CBFC’s visual changes include a reduction to a scene described as a woman slapping visual, which was cut by 20 percent, translating to an approximately two second trim.
The same cut list also notes reductions to other close up violent moments. A throat cutting close up was reduced by 20 percent, amounting to about three seconds. Two additional close up shots were shortened by roughly two seconds each, including a moment described as bloodshed involving head impact and another where blood splashes onto a woman’s face.
Runtime Is 178.41 Minutes And Longest Yet For Shahid Kapoor And Vishal Bhardwaj
Along with these trims and dialogue edits, the CBFC also directed statutory additions such as anti tobacco and anti smoking tickers and longer disclaimers with voice over. These inclusions increased the runtime by 1 minute and 57 seconds.
Following all modifications, O Romeo has a certified runtime of 178.41 minutes, which is 2 hours, 58 minutes and 41 seconds. At this length, it also stands as the longest film so far for both Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj, adding another talking point as the film heads toward its expected February 13 release.
