AMC‘s winning streak continues as a critically acclaimed series returns.
The network’s hit 4-part Western crime TV show has come back, conquering streaming in the US after just one new episode. The advent of Western TV shows is booming on network TV and streaming alike. From the advent of Yellowstone and its spinoffs to streaming originals like American Primeval, the genre has received a boost in recent years.
One popular addition is Dark Winds, a Western crime thriller follows three Navajo Tribal Police officers in the 1970s investigating various crimes in the Four Corners area of the United States. The series has earned consistent critical acclaim. Dark Winds season 4 began on Sunday, February 15, airing its first episode on AMC and AMC+.
Now, according to FlixPatrol, Dark Winds is the Number 1 TV show on AMC+ in the United States. Following season 4, episode 1’s arrival on the platform, the show instantly shot up the ranks to the top spot as of February 16, 2026. This isn’t too surprising considering how big a success the show has been since it began in 2022.
Dark Winds season 4 reviews have been nothing short of phenomenal, earning the series its fourth 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes in a row. This time around, Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernadette Manuelito are tasked with uncovering the truth behind the disappearance of Billie Tsosie, whose fate is part of a much larger, unfolding conspiracy.
The show also offers strong character stories between the larger cases everyone tackles. Dark Winds‘ characters and their interactions with one another have been a point of praise, with special attention paid to Zahn McClarnon’s Leaphorn. It helps that many of their storylines intersect with the primary crime of every season, making each event feel important.
Given the swift streaming success of season 4, it’s not a surprise that AMC has lots of faith in the future of the show. As of writing, Dark Winds season 5 has been officially confirmed, with another batch of episodes scheduled to be released in 2027. Even though season 4 has just begun, there’s no sign the show will be slowing down anytime soon.
Since AMC typically only airs one new show at a time on their network, Dark Winds seems guaranteed to remain on top of AMC+ for the foreseeable future. With seven episodes left in season 4, the show has plenty of time to continue its reign on the streamer in the US as weekly installments arrive.
