Now that the acclaimed video game adaptation Fallout has concluded its second season, there’s a new show topping Prime Video’s weekly TV rankings: the Aldis Hodge-starrer Cross. Inspired by James Patterson’s Alex Cross books, the show just premiered the first three episodes of its second season last week, and based on the reception so far, Season 2 looks poised to be a great success with Prime Video subscribers. Of course, Cross is just one of many great shows you could watch on the streaming service, with its expansive library of acclaimed and popular TV series. ‘Cross’ (2024–Present)
As we already mentioned, Cross is a crime thriller series adapted from novels by James Patterson. Created by Ben Watkins, the show stars Aldis Hodge as the titular Washington, D.C. detective and forensic psychologist, following his struggles with temper issues and the grief of his wife’s murder alongside his investigation into high-profile cases inspired by timely political issues. Besides Hodge, the series also stars Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, and more.
Arguably one of the most underrated action shows on Prime Video, Cross premiered to mixed but largely positive reviews in 2024, then followed it up with the (so far) better-received Season 2 this month. While the series does occasionally veer into predictable and clichéd territory, it’s generally a pretty entertaining show, anchored by Aldis Hodge’s charismatic lead performance. Overall, it’s an engaging adaptation that successfully captures the ethos of its source material and is a great watch for fans of gritty, pulled-from-the-headlines crime dramas.

‘Perry Mason’ (1957–1966)
An iconic CBS classic, Perry Mason is a legal drama procedural adapted from Erle Stanley Gardner’s detective fiction stories. Starring Raymond Burr in the titular role, the show follows the Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer in one-hour episodes where he investigates cases on behalf of wrongfully accused clients, then expertly defends them in court, usually culminating in a dramatic confession. Besides Burr, the show also stars Barbara Hale as Mason’s secretary, Della Street, and William Hopper as Paul Drake, a private detective who does most of the legwork for Perry’s investigations.
The classic, black-and-white Perry Mason is easily one of the most successful legal dramas of all time, and the definitive television take on the character. The show aired 271 episodes over nine seasons on CBS, becoming a major hit in its day and earning several accolades, including two Emmy Awards for Burr and one for Hale. After its conclusion in 1966, Perry Mason went on to become a syndication staple, and Burr later reprised the role in 26 NBC TV films starting in 1985.

‘Modern Love’ (2019–2021)
Developed by John Carney, Modern Love is an anthology series inspired by the weekly column published by The New York Times. Essentially a romantic comedy collection, the show explores love in all its forms — sexual, romantic, familial, and more. The series’ revolving cast includes several popular stars, including Cristin Milioti, Catherine Keener, Dev Patel, Andy García, Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Sofia Boutella, Julia Garner, Andrew Scott, Olivia Cooke, Ed Sheeran, and James Saito.
Primarily set in New York City, Modern Love has been widely hailed as one of the best shows to utilize the city’s particular setting and atmosphere, and a sweet, feel-good series with broad appeal. The individual stories may follow familiar tropes to some extent, but each is elevated by the performances of its talented stars. Dev Patel and Anne Hathaway, in particular, received praise for their work on the show, which earned both of them Critics’ Choice nominations, with Patel also receiving a Primetime Emmy nomination.
