Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla has been one of the most talked about Hindi films on the 2026 calendar, thanks to its horror comedy promise and the much awaited reunion of Kumar with director Priyadarshan. But just as the film’s buzz was peaking, a viral claim began doing the rounds that Bhooth Bangla was once actually meant to be Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, sparking curiosity about whether the upcoming Akshay starrer was secretly tied to the blockbuster franchise.
T Series Denies Any Bhool Bhulaiyaa Link
T-Series has now issued a clear clarification, shutting down the speculation about any connection between Bhooth Bangla and the Bhool Bhulaiyaa universe. Shiv Chanana, co producer at T-Series, stated that the company has never received any script from Priyadarshan or his team to develop a film within the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise.
Chanana also dismissed the claim that an older draft of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was repurposed into Bhooth Bangla, underlining that the stories of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 were conceived as original narratives.
“It is our franchise. If anything has to be developed, it will be developed by us and under our supervision, which is exactly how Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 were made. I don’t understand where these stories are coming from, this was never the case,” Chanana said.
Why The Rumour Took Off
The speculation gained traction largely because Bhooth Bangla sits in a similar entertainment space as Bhool Bhulaiyaa, with horror elements balanced by humour, and because Akshay Kumar’s name is closely associated with the first Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Add to that the heightened interest around Priyadarshan’s return to this genre and the chatter quickly turned into a supposed “franchise origin” story.
However, T-Series’ position makes it clear that the Bhool Bhulaiyaa brand is treated as proprietary, and any suggestion of overlap in story or universe is being firmly denied.
Bhooth Bangla Release Date And Cast Update
While the debate around its origins is now addressed, Bhooth Bangla continues to generate strong anticipation for its theatrical arrival. The film’s release date has seen changes in recent months, but Akshay Kumar confirmed on February 7, 2026, that Bhooth Bangla will release in cinemas on April 10, 2026.
The Priyadarshan directorial features a strong ensemble led by Akshay Kumar, with Tabu, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav also starring.
