AnimationXpress.com has announced that Anime India, touted to be the country’s largest Japanese anime convention, will feature prominent figures from the anime industry, including director Tetsuro Araki. The event is scheduled to take place from Aug. 22-24 at the NESCO Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai.
Araki, known for his directorial work on acclaimed anime series such as Attack on Titan and Death Note, will attend as the convention’s “flagship guest.” His schedule includes a 90-minute interviewer-led session on Aug. 24, focusing on Attack on Titan and Death Note. He is also slated to participate in a meet-and-greet with fans and key members of the Indian anime community.
Other notable guests include Hideo Katsumata, the President of Avex Pictures, who has worked on series like Black Clover, Gachiakuta, and the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards winner Look Back. Voice actor and DJ Tsunko, the voice of Aoi Miyake from D4DJ, will also be in attendance.
The convention will host India’s first ticketed anime concert, “Anime India Live House,” featuring a performance by Tsunko alongside DJ Touko Nakamura. Organizers have indicated that more performers will be added to the lineup.
Attendees with VIP tickets will have access to a meet-and-greet with the guests, receive autographs, and have special seating during the “Live House” concert.
The event, which anticipates to attract over 20,000 attendees, will also feature a variety of activities inspired by international anime conventions. These include exhibitions by more than 20 independent artists and cosplayers, displays from over 10 anime clubs from across the country, fan panels, and contests.
For the first time in India, an authentic maid cafe is also planned for the event.
Additionally, the convention floor will have licensed anime merchandise available on a large scale. The event schedule also includes a film festival, a cosplay showcase, fighting game events, and the final round of “The Great Indian Anime Showdown” quiz on Aug 23, which will focus on Araki’s other works.
