Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Movie Earns Over 7 Billion Yen, Breaks All Records In Its Opening Weekend


Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – Akaza’s Return, grossed over 7.3 billion yen in its opening four-day weekend. In doing so, the film broke three major box office records for a film released in Japan: highest opening weekend revenue, highest opening day revenue, and highest single-day revenue.

TOHO, which distributed the movie, updated a message on their official website, acknowledging the movie’s feats and thanking fans for their support.

The first installment of the Infinity Castle trilogy earned 1.64 billion yen (about USD 11.1 million) on its first day, July 18, breaking the previous record held by Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, which had earned 1.26 billion yen on its opening day in 2020.

The film also set a new record for the highest single-day earning on Sunday, July 20, with 2.03 billion yen (about USD 13.8 million).

Its total four-day gross of 7,315,846,800 yen also set a new record for the opening weekend. In the first three days alone the movie earned 5,524,298,500 yen (about USD 37.45 million). In comparison, Mugen Train had earned 4,623,117,450 yen in its opening three-day weekend, which is over 900 million yen less.

A daily breakdown of the Infinity Castle movie’s initial three-day earnings showed it took in 1.64 billion yen on Friday, 1.84 billion yen on Saturday, 2.03 billion yen on Sunday, and 1.79 billion yen on Monday.

With its opening performance, Infinity Castle became the second highest-earning film of 2025 in Japan. It currently trails Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, which earned over 14 billion yen in its theatrical run.

Following its record-breaking debut, Infinity Castle is now positioned to challenge the all-time domestic box office record held by Mugen Train. The 2020 film ended its theatrical run as the highest-grossing film in Japanese history with a total of 40.43 billion yen, surpassing all previous domestic and international films released in the country.

Infinity Castle movie’s release was met with massive audience demand. Online ticket sales launched at midnight on July 14 reportedly caused ticketing websites to crash. In many instances, tickets for opening weekend showtimes were completely sold out within 10 minutes.

The feature-length film has a runtime of 155 minutes, and is the first instalment of the planned trilogy of movies which will adapt the Infinity Castle arc from the original manga by Koyoharu Gotouge.

An international release starting from Aug 12, 2025 by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment has been announced.Ā The movie will hit theatres in United States and Canada on Sep 12, 2025.

LiSA and Aimer are returning to perform the theme songs of the movie.Ā A brand new trailer was releasedĀ to commemorate this news in June.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaĀ was serialized in Shueisha’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020, with its chapters collected in 23 tankobon volumes. It went on to become on of the highest selling manga with over 150 million copies in circulation.
