- August update hasn’t fixed Pixel 9 Pro camera
- Still crashes when recording video
- Google hasn’t even acknowledged issue
The Pixel 6 Pro’s camera is still broken following Google’s latest Android 16 update, according to reports.
Ever since the initial launch of the Android 16 beta some six months ago, Google Pixel 6 Pro users have reported crashes when attempting to record videos on the phone. This continued with the first stable release in June.
It was hoped that Google’s August Android 16 update would include a fix for this issue, but to no avail.

As Android Headlines reports, switching between lenses whilst recording 4K video at 30fps on the Pixel 6 Pro seems to be prompting the following warning: “A problem occurred, part of the video may not have been saved,” followed by a crash.
Part of the problem here seems to be Google itself, which hasn’t even acknowledged that an issue exists.
It seems that no corrective measures are proving effective here, whether that’s clearing the camera app’s cache before recording or initiating a full phone reset.
Given that the issue is occurring well outside of the Pixel 6 Pro’s warranty period (the phone hit the market in October 2021), it’s not something that can be claimed against under the guise of a hardware issue, either.

Android 16 security update
Google did recently release an update to Android 16 that closed off a major security flaw. Prior to the update, it had been possible for an attacker to gain access to a Pixel phone remotely without so much as a clicked link on the user’s part.
The latest fix also fixes an issue with the dark theme not kicking in, as well as an unresponsive back command.
We’re still awaiting the single biggest new feature associated with Android 16 in the shape of Google’s Material 3 Expressive redesign. This is expected to ship alongside the Pixel 10 series towards the end of August.
That’s all well and good, but in the meantime Pixel 6 Pro users simply want a camera app that doesn’t crash.
