Renowned manhwa artist Il-sook Shin, known for classics such as The Four Daughters of Armian and Lineage, is releasing her first new work in eight years. The Korea Cartoonists Association announced on August 5 that Shin’s webtoon Manu’s Daughters will be serialized on Naver Webtoon. The webtoon launched on the same day.
Manu’s Daughters tells the story of Queen Manu, who bridges the worlds of gods and humans, and her daughters — each born with unique abilities — as they forge their own destinies.
Shin revealed that the concept has been with her for decades. “About 40 years ago, I had a vivid dream and promised myself I would turn it into a comic,” she said. “I first adapted that dream into The Four Daughters of Armian by incorporating elements of Persian war history, but Manu’s Daughters is closer to the original dream.”
Shin debuted in 1984 with Princess of the Lion and went on to create some of the most popular works of Korea’s print comic era, including Lineage, the original source material for one of the most successful MMORPG franchises in Korean gaming history.
