Major Care Boost as Tŷ Gobaith Hospice Plans Therapy Pool

Tŷ Gobaith Hospice in the Conwy Valley has submitted plans for a new therapy pool, accessible changing facilities, a plant room and support spaces. This will bring a boost to the already incredible facilities at the site. The justification behind this was to provide aquatic therapy due to many who come to the site, having multiple physical and learning disabilities and sensory difficulties as part of their complex health conditions.

A statement of need from Tŷ Gobaith stated that the benefits of aquatic therapy is that it provides a supportive, water-based environment that encourages movement and comfort. The properties of warm water help reduce strain on the body while promoting strength, relaxation, and confidence. This approach is particularly valuable for children who experience physical challenges, sensory differences, pain, or heightened stress, and for those with visual or perceptual difficulties.

The pool would provide parents and children with private, discreet access, creating opportunities for meaningful and cherished time together. An inspection by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales in July 2025 identified the addition of a therapy pool as a key enhancement to further strengthen the services offered at Tŷ Gobaith Hospice.

Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS recently visited the hospice to view the impressive facilities and the many enhancements already in place. During her visit, she also discussed the benefits of a therapy pool and how it would further enhance the quality of care provided.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd Member for Aberconwy said:

“I very much welcome these plans by Tŷ Gobaith to build its first on-site therapy pool, which would be a hugely positive step for children and families who rely on this incredible hospice.

“I recently visited Tŷ Gobaith and saw first-hand the compassion, dedication and specialist care provided by the staff and volunteers. This proposed therapy pool would be a real asset, giving children regular access to hydrotherapy in a supportive environment, without the need to travel elsewhere.

“Tŷ Gobaith plays a vital role in supporting children with complex and life-limiting conditions, as well as their families. The development would enhance the outstanding care already provided and bring comfort, joy and meaningful therapeutic benefits to so many families across North Wales and further afield.”
