The Gotham Film and Media Institute has revealed the programming lineup for its 2025 edition, running from Sept. 29-Oct. 3 in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
The event’s invitation-only project market, connecting new fiction and documentary projects in development with industry executives via a meetings-driven forum, includes new work from producers Margaret Cho, Sean Baker and Andrew Ahn.
The U.S. Features in Development section includes Ahn’s A World of My Own, Didi producer Valerie Bush presenting The Last Supper with Carlos Lopez Estrada (Raya and the Last Dragon) and Josh Peters presenting Someday, producers Gina Gammell (War Pony) and Sacha Ben Harroche (Sound of Metal) presenting The Dispute, producer Gerry Kim (I’m No Longer Here) presenting The Camford Experiment and producer Jane Zheng (The Farewell) presenting Naked in Glendale.
The Shorts to Features section, of feature-length films based on shorts and proof of concepts includes the Cho-produced Seoul Switch, Emily McCann Lesser (How to Shoot a Ghost) presenting If I Die in America, Tory Lenosky (Resurrection) presenting V is for Victoria and Alexander Stegmaier (Mutt) presenting Work. The U.S. Shorts to Features projects will have a dedicated screening at Nitehawk Prospect Park on Oct. 1.
The Documentaries section includes the Baker-produced Strip, Strike, Unite! as well as the Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons-executive produced Kinfolk, The Social Dilemma’s Jeff Orlowski-Yang, Larissa Rhodes and Stacey Piculell presenting #WhileBlack, producer Adam Dietrich (The Vast of Night) presenting Rabbit Hole, producers Matthew Perniciaro (The Truffle Hunters) and Amanda Pike (Victim/Suspect) presenting Only Game in Town and producer Julie Parker Benello (American Factory) presenting Queen’s Castle from director Katie Dellamaggiore (Brooklyn Castle) as well as Meant to be Maddie. And the section includes two nonfiction projects presented in partnership with The Gotham’s Global Producers Hub including one from The Inspection writer-director Elegance Bratton and producer Chester Algernal Gordon and Age of Loneliness, produced by Leslie Norville (The First Wave).
This year’s Global Producers Hub includes new projects from U.S. producers Joe Pirro (The Wedding Banquet), Sally Oh and Eli Raskin (Blue Sun Palace), Ani Schroeter (Bunnylovr) and Daniel Tantalean (In the Summers). The section will also include international work at different stages of development, production and distribution including the Toronto Film Festival selection 100 Sunset by Kunsang Kyirong, Dirty by director Devon Graye and producer Jordan Gavaris, The Other by Alexandre Franchi, Cold Ashes Can Cause Forest Fires by director Ashmita Guha Neogi, Corte Culebra by director Ana Elena Tejera and Inbetween Worlds by director Diana Cam Van Nguyen, the first time it’s presented in a domestic market. And the Gotham/VIPO Emerging Director Fellowship has selected Minami Iizuka to present her first feature to possible producers and creative partners.
“Gotham Week continues to be an essential gathering place where the film and media community come together to discover, support, and celebrate the next generation of bold storytellers,” The Gotham deputy director Kia Brooks said in a statement. “This year’s programming reflects our commitment to not only showcasing incredible projects but also providing practical, future-focused solutions for filmmakers and organizations navigating an ever-evolving industry landscape.”
Programming and industry initiatives director Gabriele Capolino added, “This year’s market includes a robust mix of projects, including many genre titles and wide-ranging documentaries, that have the right ingredients to capture the industry’s attention and generate real momentum for the careers of the filmmakers.”
The project market will also include this year’s Series Creators to Watch pitch event, giving rising voices in TV and serialized storytelling a chance to present their projects to industry leaders and potential collaborators.
In addition to the Project Market, the 2025 Gotham Week will include the fourth-annual Gotham Week Expo, bringing together partners from The Gotham’s Expanding Communities program, providing collective support and thought leadership on industry issues, as well as resources for nonprofit media organizations and a showcase dedicated to The Gotham’s non-profit, college, university and film office partners.
Gotham Week will also honor this year’s breakout narrative feature, documentary and short film creators as well as industry leaders and filmmakers at the Gotham Week Honors event.
Films that were previously part of the Project Market include Sean Wang’s Dìdi (弟弟) (Focus Features), Raven Jackson’s All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt (A24), Erica Tremblay’s Fancy Dance (Apple TV+), Laurel Parmet’s The Starling Girl (Bleecker Street), Michael Dweck & Gregory Kershaw’s The Truffle Hunters (Sony Pictures Classics) and Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar’s American Factory (Netflix).
