It looks like Resident Evil 5 and ** Resident Evil 6 ** are getting a current-gen upgrade soon, as ESRB ratings have appeared for Xbox Series X versions.
With the survival horror series celebrating its 30th anniversary and a new game in Resident Evil: Requiem, it would be no surprise if we got some other Resi-shaped announcements in the coming weeks, and while collaborations with watch and car companies are nice and all, fans would much prefer some game-based news instead.
Resident Evil 5 and 6 Ports Incoming?
A new full remake? That’s likely one thing coming, but with this rating, it would seem to rule out Resident Evil 5, and a remake of 6 would be daft at this point. So I’m still happily dreaming of Code Veronica getting on next.
Current-gen remasters of older Resident Evil games have been rumored previously, and while you can already play both on Xbox Series X via backward compatibility with the Xbox One versions, these are new listings.
While these are two of the more successful entries in the series, they aren’t exactly the most popular. Resident Evil 5 shifted further towards action after Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 6? Well, let’s be kind and call it a misguided mess.
But they are a part of Resi history, so it’s nice to potentially get current-gen versions. Resident Evil 5 had co-op in previous versions, and it was probably the highlight, so hopefully, Capcom hasn’t decided to ditch it for this remaster.
Will other older Resident Evil games follow suit? Well, the original trilogy already exists on PS5, Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 are reportedly next for the remake treatment, and the original Resident Evil 4 has been ported to everything but my microwave.
Resident Evil Remake ported to current-gen consoles? perhaps? Xbox and Switch ports of the OG trilogy? Resident Evil 2 64 on the Switch 2? I guess we’ll have some answers in the coming months.
