Whether you own a Roku TV or one of the many streaming sticks, four new features are available now to make discovering new shows and films much easier.
The four updates were announced last week by Roku in the US, but are gradually being rolled out across various devices “over the coming weeks”, according to the official press release – so don’t panic if your device doesn’t have them yet.
In the New & Popular section, users will find Top 10 Trending Lists for the most searched-for movies and TV shows across the platform. These lists are refreshed every day, so you can ensure that you’re in the know about what’s in demand in the world of entertainment.
You can plan your future film binges with the Movie Night feature. While you can’t view films that are exclusive in cinemas (such as The Fantastic Four: First Steps), you can now add titles such as these to your Save List, so when they arrive on streaming, they’ll be ready to access easily.
If you’re unsure of whether to save a film, then the trailer is also available to watch alongside the title.
For those overwhelmed by all the free content available on The Roku Channel, Surf Mode uses AI to curate short clips of shows and films based on your tastes. And rest assured, they’re all clips you can actually watch – not AI-generated slop.
Finally, Live TV is also getting a refresh. You can access the latest free live channels on the Newly Added section of the TV guide.
These new features follow the launch of two fresh Roku devices, the Roku Streaming Stick and Roku Streaming Stick Plus, and three major updates to Roku TV models in the UK to make navigation easier.
Tech Advisor has contacted Roku for clarification on whether the four updates detailed above will also roll out on UK devices. You can find a full list of Roku TVs and streaming sticks on the Roku website.
