RRR Anime Adaptation Might Happen Soon: S.S. Rajamouli In Talks With Japanese Studios

In a recent press meet with Polygon for his upcoming movie Varanasi, director S.S. Rajamouli revealed that he is currently in talks with studios in Japan regarding an anime adaptation for the hit movie RRR.

“We have been in talks with a few studios in Japan to make RRR in anime,” the director said. “So I’m waiting for things to get through. Hopefully it happens, and hopefully we can announce a cool continuation of RRR anime.”

Rajamouli was recently introduced to anime, and in that short time he was massively impressed by what he saw.

“I was introduced to anime very recently,” he said, “and what I have seen has blown me away. Why did I miss out on these things for so long?”

The director has reportedly checked out popular franchises like Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer among others, with anime revealing new possibilities for him to tell stories “in a more attacking and impressive manner.”

“How you stun the audience with unexpected moments and with a lot of emotion added to that. It’s not just a surprise, it’s very emotionally driven, compelling movements, which are also surprises,” he said.

Rajamouli himself is a director who is known for focusing on the emotional depth of characters to drive his stories, and there is no surprise that anime has opened his eyes to a more vast expanse of options.

The director did not specify the format of the RRR anime adaptation. But, it will most likely be a theatrical release based on the movie.

Meanwhile, Rajamouli’s other work, Baahubali is getting an animated spinoff. Titled Baahubali: The Eternal War, the two-part 3D animated feature directed by Ishan Shukla will release sometime in 2027.
