Samsung Galaxy A17: In summary
- Samsung’s upcoming budget Android phone
- Set to arrive early in Q4 2025
- A similar design is tipped with a slimmer and lighter body
- The main upgrade will be an improved main camera
While Samsung holds big Unpacked launch events at glamorous locations around the world, one of its most popular Galaxy phones doesn’t get the limelight it deserves.
Not everyone can afford a flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra or Galaxy Z Fold 7, and that’s when the Galaxy A models come into play.
The most budget-friendly of which is the A1X series, with the A3X and A5X models filling in the mid-range. Samsung typically sells millions of these Android phones every year, so here we are looking ahead to see what the Galaxy A17 will bring to the budget market.
We’ll take you through when to expect its arrival, the price and potential specs and features via a mix of leaks, rumours and our expert analysis.
Based on the information available, the Galaxy A17 promises notable upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy A16
When will the Samsung Galaxy A17 be released?
In summary
- Q4 of 2025 is highly likely
- October seems like a good bet
Tech Advisor expects the Samsung Galaxy A17 to launch late in 2025, during Q4, soon after the Galaxy S25 FE.
Samsung hasn’t said anything official, of course, but we can look back at previous generations to get an idea.
The Galaxy A16 phones arrived in October 2024, so this month seems like the most likely for the Galaxy A17, too.
However, Samsung launched the A15 models in December 2023, so there’s not a solid refresh cycle right now.
One unusual thing to bear in mind is that the 4G and 5G versions of the Galaxy A16 were announced just over a week apart, with the 5G arriving first.

How much will the Samsung Galaxy A17 cost?
In summary
- Similar budget-friendly prices expected
- Both models could be under £200/$200
The Galaxy A17 will almost certainly hit a budget price point. At Tech Advisor, that means under £300/$300.
Considering the Galaxy A16 and the A16 5G (and previous generations) are well under this price cap, we fully expect it to be the same again.
The prices below are unlikely to be very different to the A17 and could even be identical. One rumour suggests a price around $150, which would match its predecessor.
- Galaxy A16 – £169/$149
- Galaxy A16 5G – £199/$199

What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy A17 have?
In summary
- Similar design and specs to the A16
- A few upgrades and refinements
- The main camera is set to get OIS
- Which Exynos processor is up in the air
The Galaxy A17 has been leaked fairly comprehensively already so there’s not much left to the imagination if they are to believed (and the sources are reputible for these).
Starting with the design, its unsurprising that Samsung is sticking with a similar design to previous models. There’s some style from more expensive phones but with various differences to make it more affordable such as a plastic back, though there is Gorilla Glass Victus on the front which is a welcome addition.
The device will reportedly come in three colours for you to choose from and the A17 is a little slimmer and lighter than the A16.
Note that the cameras now come in a contained module like the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 rather than the previous indivual port-hole style.

When it comes to the specs, things are looking very similar to its precessor. You’ll find a full spec list below which has been leaked which shows various things will be the same such as the battery size, charging speed, camera resolutions and screen size.
To highlight the upgrades, the 50Mp main camera is set to get optical image stabilisation (OIS) which will improve the performance of both still photography and video.
There will also be access to various AI features including Google Gemini via the power button, including Gemini Live, and Circle to Search, too.
One thing which still seems up in the air is the processor (for the 5G model), which was rumoured to be a new Exynos 1380 chipset but the subsiquently leaked specs show the same 1330 as the A16. The 4G model is likely to get a different chipset.
We hope Samsung does upgrade the processor and makes some other improvements such as a brighter screen.
