Silver and White – Ginkakuji Snow Day

On those rare days when we get measurable snow in Kyoto, the only question is where to go. Most tourists don’t seem to get that a snow day in Kyoto means “Go, go, go!” – which is why I can go to a hot spot like Ginkakuji and not be swarmed by the mobs.

Today is the second-biggest snowfall since I’ve lived here – we should be around 7-8 cm by the time it moves out tonight. That pales in comparison to the event two winters ago, when we got around 20 cm. But that happened at night, and a work night at that. I’ve always regretted not calling in sick the next day (though the bus I had just disembarked spinning out and crashing into a sign three feet away from me was memorable). No such dilemmas today – it’s Sunday and I headed out to Kinkakuji, with a stop off at Hachi Jinja afterwards. Enjoy the glory that it Kyoto in the snow – I sure did.
