The Hidden Rivalry Between Moriah & Lydia Plath

Welcome To Plathville is exposing a fascinating rivalry between two of the Plath siblings that most viewers aren’t likely to have noticed in the past. While Welcome To Plathville season 7 is focused on Lydia Plath’s wedding to Zac Wyse and the drama surrounding it, there’s also been a fair share of attention spent on Ethan Plath, Micah Plath, and Isaac Plath.

Each of the elder Plath brother are in relationships that are either new to viewers or beginning to crumble, and as the season has continued, it’s been clear that the Plath brothers aren’t all on the same page with each other or their significant others. Instead, the Plath family’s struggling on multiple fronts, including keeping the majority of the family together.

Moriah Plath, who’s had a close relationship with Micah in the past, has become more of a black sheep throughout the years, especially as her siblings have moved forward in creating lives for themselves. Throughout Welcome To Plathville season 6, Moriah was secretive and off-kilter, and her behavior hasn’t shifted much this season. Thankfully, the show is exposing a difficult realtionship between the siblings.

Throughout Welcome To Plathville season 7, it’s been clear that Moriah is on a very different path than her siblings have taken in the past. While Moriah has always been more of the odd-one-out in her family, she has often labeled herself as the black sheep rather than allowing others to describe her as such. Moriah’s always felt like an outsider.

As Lydia’s wedding has been the focus of Welcome To Plathville season 7, Moriah’s love life has been on the back burner. Throughout Welcome To Plathville season 6, Moriah was shown to be secretive and aloof, moving away from her family as she fell back into a difficult relationship with her ex-boyfriend. Although things didn’t last, the relationship appears to have taken a toll on Moriah.

Lydia, who’s always played a caretaking role in her family, has long been one of the quieter Plath siblings on the show. As Welcome To Plathville season 7 began to introduce Lydia’s new storyline, bringing her then-fiancé Zac into the mix and getting him to meet her family, it was clear that there was going to be drama surrounding the wedding.

Lydia and Zac have been monumentally sweet and excited about their upcoming wedding, which has at times made it tough for her to connect with her siblings. Lydia, the second Plath daughter to marry, is getting more attention and affection from her parents than ever. Unfortunately, Moriah’s been going through a difficult transition at the same time, but is being pushed to the back burner.

As Welcome To Plathville continues to show Lydia in a specifically positive light, it’s clear that her relationship with Moriah has been difficult to handle. Lydia and Moriah may have been close in the past, but with Moriah moving to Montana seemingly on a whim as Lydia plans her quick wedding, the sisters haven’t connected. In fact, they’ve developed a rivalry.

While Lydia and Moriah may not have a traditional sibling rivalry, it’s been shown in previous seasons that the sisters used to be quite close. With Moriah moving away from the family and Lydia starting her life, both are vying for their parents’ attention in different ways. The tension between them has been minimal, but clear, since both began to move into the same spotlight.

Lydia, who showed off her wedding dress shopping trip along with her younger sisters and mother Kim Plath in a recent episode, made it clear that Moriah was invited, but wasn’t expected. Moriah, who showed up late and demanded Lydia’s spotlight in ways, made it clear her regard for her sister was minimal. Welcome To Plathville is finally showing the cracks in their tough relationship.

Welcome To Plathville airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on TLC.
