Top Star’s INSECURITY Over Ahaan Panday’s Saiyaara Success

The runaway success of the romantic drama Saiyaara has not only revived the genre but also seemingly shaken the confidence of some of Bollywood’s established names. In a recent explosive interview, veteran film journalist Komal Nahta pulled back the curtain on the industry’s notorious insecurity, sharing anecdotes about how the success of newcomer Ahaan Panday‘s film has caused a stir among the elite.

Nahta recounted a particularly telling incident at a party hosted by producer Bhushan Kumar, where his verdict on Saiyaara was met with a frosty reception from a well-known actor. The revelation highlights a competitive anxiety that often lurks beneath the industry’s glamorous facade, where the triumph of a new generation can be perceived as a threat by the old guard.

The ‘Sleepless Nights’ of an Insecure Star

Elaborating on a recent article he penned, Komal Nahta confirmed the story of a “40-year-old actor” who has been deeply unsettled by Saiyaara‘s box office dominance. “I didn’t take the actor’s name so as not to embarrass them,” Nahta stated in a YouTube chat with Faridoon Shahryar. “But whatever I wrote, that he is spending sleepless nights, that he is constantly on calls asking if the numbers are accurate, every word of that article is genuine, I swear.”

Nahta admitted to slightly misrepresenting minor details, such as the number of films the actor has done, purely to protect their identity. He stressed that his intention wasn’t to mock the individual but to illustrate a larger point about the pervasive insecurity that can affect even the most successful stars when a newcomer’s film unexpectedly captures the nation’s heart.

A Chilling Reaction At Bhushan Kumar’s Party

The most vivid example of this anxiety came from an interaction at Bhushan Kumar’s party. “I was at Bhushan Kumar’s party, and one of his stars asked me about Saiyaara. I told him that it’s a blockbuster,” Nahta recalled. The reaction was immediate and telling: “He got up and left.” This stark response underscores the pressure stars feel, where good news for one film is often perceived as bad news for their own prospects.

Nahta further explained that this is a common pattern. He receives numerous calls from industry figures on Fridays, most of whom are hoping to hear that the latest release has failed. He noted that while at least 20 people called him to express shock over Saiyaara‘s massive opening, he wasn’t surprised at all, telling them they simply “weren’t paying enough attention to the promotions.” The film’s success was, in his view, guaranteed.
